Road Closures

Chester is a very active city and regularly hosts sporting events. We love this, but it does mean that road closures impact the journey to church.

On Sunday 17th May 2025, Parkgate Road will be closed Northbound 08:30 - 13:00. It will be possible to drive to church throughout this time. There are simple instructions below (Google Maps version here), and specific instructions if you are driving from further afield at the bottom of the page.

  1. Drive to Morrisons on Liverpool Road.
    If coming from the centre or south of the city you may need to drive up Victoria Road past Brio Northgate to avoid road closures at the bottom of Liverpool Road.

  2. Drive down Countess way to the Parkgate Road roundabout outside Aldi.

  3. Turn left southbound up Parkgate Road and turn onto the university campus as normal.
    Please note that whilst the Northbound carriageway is closed, no runners will be running along it outside the university so it will be possible to cross the northbound carriageway onto the site.

If you live in Chester, you may prefer to walk or cycle this Sunday.

Location Specific Instructions

We have also prepared specific instructions to help you if you are coming from outside the city.

  • Drive along the A494, leaving it at the junction for CostCo. Then drive to the Backford Cross Roundabout and drive south into Chester.

    1. Loop around the city on the A55. Turn off as the A55 becomes the M53 and drive to the Hoole Roundabout.

    2. Go straight on at the roundabout, driving down Hoole Road and into the centre of Chester.

    3. Turn right at the roundabout outside the Bus Station and follow the Road to Fountains Roundabout.

    4. At Fountains Roundabout, go all the way around the roundabout and take the first left up Victoria Road.

    5. At the end of the road turn left followed by an immediate right onto Liverpool Road.

    2. Go straight on at the roundabout, driving down Hoole Road and into the centre of Chester.

    3. Turn right at the roundabout outside the Bus Station and follow the Road to Fountains Roundabout.

    4. At Fountains Roundabout, go all the way around the roundabout and take the first left up Victoria Road.

    5. At the end of the road turn left followed by an immediate right onto Liverpool Road.
